Week 1 Thursday Evening

Hail, gladdening Light, / of His pure glory poured
Who is th'immortal Father, / heavenly, blessed
Holiest of Holies - / Jesus Christ our Lord!
Now as we come / to the sun's hour of rest
The lights of the evening / round us shine
We hymn the Father, / Son and Holy Spirit divine!
Worthiest art thou / at all times to be sung
With undefiled tongue / Son of our God, giver of life, alone:
Therefore in all the world / thy glories, Lord, they own.
Amen.

O LORD, I have called to you, come to me quickly! / Listen to my voice when I call to you.
Let my prayer be set before you like incense; / the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.
Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth. / Keep the door of my lips.
Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. / As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

My soul magnifies the Lord. / My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior,
For he has looked at the humble state of his handmaid. / For behold, from now on, all generations will call me blessed.
For he who is mighty has done great things for me. / Holy is his name.
His mercy is for generations of generations on those who fear him. / He has shown strength with his arm.
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. / He has put down princes from their thrones and has exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things. / He has sent the rich away empty.
He has given help to Israel, his servant, that he might remember mercy, / As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and his seed forever.
Amen.

Psalm 94

O LORD, you God to whom vengeance belongs, / you God to whom vengeance belongs, shine forth.
Rise up, you judge of the earth. / Pay back the proud what they deserve.
O LORD, how long will the wicked, / how long will the wicked triumph?
They pour out arrogant words. / All the evildoers boast.
They break your people in pieces, O LORD, / and afflict your heritage.
They kill the widow and the alien, / and murder the fatherless.
They say, “GOD will not see, / neither will Jacob’s God consider.”
Consider, you senseless among the people; / you fools, when will you be wise?
He who implanted the ear, won’t he hear? / He who formed the eye, won’t he see?
He who disciplines the nations, won’t he punish? / He who teaches man knows.
The LORD knows the thoughts of man, / that they are futile.
Blessed is the man whom you discipline, GOD, / and teach out of your law;
that you may give him rest from the days of adversity, / until the pit is dug for the wicked.
For the LORD won’t reject his people, / neither will he forsake his inheritance.
For judgement will return to righteousness. / All the upright in heart shall follow it.
Who will rise up for me against the wicked? / Who will stand up for me against the evildoers?
Unless the LORD had been my help, / my soul would have soon lived in silence.
When I said, “My foot is slipping!” / Your loving kindness, O LORD, held me up.
In the multitude of my thoughts within me, / your comforts delight my soul.
Shall the throne of wickedness have fellowship with you, / which brings about mischief by statute?
They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, / and condemn the innocent blood.
But the LORD has been my high tower, / my God, the rock of my refuge.
He has brought on them their own iniquity, and will cut them off in their own wickedness. / The LORD, our God, will cut them off.

Psalm 119 Daled

My soul is laid low in the dust. / Revive me according to your word!
I declared my ways, and you answered me. / Teach me your statutes.
Let me understand the teaching of your precepts! / Then I will meditate on your wondrous works.
My soul is weary with sorrow: / strengthen me according to your word.
Keep me from the way of deceit. / Grant me your law graciously!
I have chosen the way of truth. / I have set your ordinances before me.
I cling to your statutes, O LORD. / Don’t let me be disappointed.
I run in the path of your commandments, / for you have set my heart free.

Psalm 62

My soul rests in God alone. / My salvation is from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation, / my fortress— I will never be greatly shaken.
How long will you assault a man, would all of you throw him down, / Like a leaning wall, like a tottering fence?
They fully intend to throw him down from his lofty place. They delight in lies. / They bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.
My soul, wait in silence for God alone, / for my expectation is from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation, / my fortress. I will not be shaken.
With God is my salvation and my honour. / The rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.
Trust in him at all times, you people. / Pour out your heart before him. God is a refuge for us. Selah.
Surely men of low degree are just a breath, and men of high degree are a lie. / In the balances they will go up. They are together lighter than a breath.
Don’t trust in oppression. Don’t become vain in robbery. / If riches increase, don’t set your heart on them.
God has spoken once; twice I have heard this, / that power belongs to God.
Also to you, Lord, belongs loving kindness, / for you reward every man according to his work.

Lord, now you let your servant depart in peace / according to your word
For my eyes have seen / your salvation
Which you have prepared / before the face of all peoples
To be a light to lighten the Gentiles / and the glory of your people, Israel
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. / As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.

Hear, O Israel, The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  This is the first and great commandment.  The second is like it: Love your neighbour as yourself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Lord, have mercy upon us and write both these your laws in our hearts, we beseech you.

Lord, have mercy upon us. / Christ, have mercy upon us.
Lord, have mercy upon us. / Let us pray.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed by thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory for ever and ever.
Amen.

From all evil and mischief, from sin, and from the crafts and assaults of the Devil, / from your wrath and from everlasting condemnation,
Good Lord, deliver us
From all blindness of heart, from pride, vanity, and hypocrisy, / from envy, hatred and malice, and all uncharitableness,
Good Lord, deliver us
From all uncleanness in thought, word and deed, / and from all deceits of the world, the flesh and the Devil
Good Lord, deliver us
By the mystery of your holy Incarnation, by your holy Nativity, / by your Baptism, Fasting and Temptation,
Good Lord, deliver us
By your Agony and bloody Sweat, by your Cross and Passion, / By your precious Death and Burial,
Good Lord, deliver us
By your glorious Resurrection and Ascension, by your sending of the Holy Spirit, / by your heavenly Intercession and by your Coming again in glory,
Good Lord, deliver us
In all times of tribulation, and in all times of prosperity, / in the hour of death and in the day of judgement,
Good Lord, deliver us

May the peace of God which passes all understanding / keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of Christ.
Amen.
